چکیده
Abstract Background and Aims Decreased bone mineral density (BMD) is well recognised in patients on dialysis. Lower DXA-BMD predicts incident fractures with CKD 3a-5D. However while age (BA) Xrays are routinely performed to assess delays density, DXA scans not available widely. We compared the utility of findings using automated measurements routine BA scans. Method In our tertiary paediatric renal unit, replacement therapy reviewed within a joint dialysis/endocrine clinic by an nephrologist endocrinologist, with annual radiological health assessment hand wrist Xray Bone Xpert™ software. This automates BMD Xrays, correcting for calculates index standard deviation score (BHI-SDS) cortical thickness mineralisation metacarpal bones. any patient abnormal or uncontrolled hyperparathyroidism, was (measured as whole body (minus head) lumbar spine (L1–L4)). Z scores were automatically calculated normative data. A review results obtained compare these investigations status dialysis patients. Results 14 ESRD had both BHI-SDS measured. Median chronological 12.6 years at densitometry (range 5.1-16.3 years) median 11.5 4.4-14.8 years). All where evidence osteodystrophy radiographically. -1.2 -3.56 1.5). Z-score -0.5 (range-3.6-2.9) WBMH -2.6-1.5). Pearson correlation coefficients 0.77 0.8 respectively. Only 4/15 (27%) who reported low BMD. one objectively measured loss vertebral height fracture assessment. there two undiagnosed scoliosis anterior wedge shaped identified DXA. These referred orthopaedic management. Conclusion The BHI- SDS measure has been reported. There appears be good between BHI scan therapy. advantages that it less expensive, more easily performed, widely takes into account delay often found children. derived from peripheral skeleton, contrast DXA, which measures total skeleton spine. useful initial quantify changes consistent skeleton. all children should proceed this may detect spinal abnormalities addition.

Utility of Modeling End-Stage Liver Disease in Children with Chronic Liver Disease
Introduction: Chronic liver diseases consist of wide spectrum disorders that may be complicated by cirrhosis and therefore need to transplantation. The pediatric end-stage liver disease (PELD) score and model of end-stage liver disease (MELD) score has been used as predictors of mortality chronic liver diseases listed for liver transplantation. The aim of this study is evaluation of relation be...
متن کاملBone Mineral Density in Children with Relapsing Nephrotic Syndrome
AbstractBackground: Given the high relapse rate of disease in children with steroid dependent nephrotic syndrome and the osteoporotic effect of long periods of steroid therapy, this survey was performed to find the bone mineral status of these patients. Methods: Bone mineral density and content (BMD and BMC) were measured using Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry in 37 nephrotic children, six girl...
متن کاملBone Mineral Density in Egyptian Children with Familial Mediterranean Fever
Background: Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) has episodic or subclinical inflammation that may lead to a decrease in bone mineral density (BMD). The objective of this study was to assess BMD in Egyptian children with FMF on genetic basis. Methods: A cross sectional study included 45 FMF patients and 25 control children of both sexes in the age range between 3-16 years old. The patients were re...

OBJECTIVE This study compared an ethnically uniform group of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) Kuwaiti patients with a control group of healthy Kuwaiti subjects, in terms of their bone mineral density (BMD) and anthropometric measurements. SUBJECTS AND METHODS Included in the study were 94 males and 129 females with a mean age of 48 ± 10 years. Forty-five males and 53 females had ESRD. The remai...
